My father has always turned his homes into beautiful and unique places to live. He has lived in many cities throughout my life, and every visit that came after a new move was filled with anticipation: What new magic will he think up this time around? His new home, which will likely be his last, is no different, except for one key aspect: I’m now old enough and within close enough proximity to help with the process. It’s a shame I didn’t have more time to help. A few more sessions and I would have killer painters biceps. ;)

After a looooong day of work, I barely made it home in time to share a song with you. As I wind down with a cup of Trader Joes Bedtime Tea, I found myself pulling up the new David Gray. His songs are so soothing. His affection for language, melody, and simplicity  continues to woo me.

I invite you to join me, to sit in the music, relax, and take one last deep breath before sleeping off the long weekend and jumping back into our responsibilities.

Cheers, Briana

50 Glimpses of Spontaneity

May 29th, 2011

Friday was a day filled with spontaneity. Blame it on the beautiful sunshine. I would say it should be mandatory to have a spontaneous adventure during the first warm week of the season,  but that would defeat the purpose, wouldn’t it? My morning began with a dear friend inviting me to join her for 50 [...]

Friday was a day filled with spontaneity. Blame it on the beautiful sunshine. I would say it should be mandatory to have a spontaneous adventure during the first warm week of the season,  but that would defeat the purpose, wouldn’t it?

My morning began with a dear friend inviting me to join her for 50 Pic Friday. Challenge Accepted. What started as merely an opportunity to capture my day ended up setting the tone for a day worth remembering. A trip to the park with sweet little Allie. Dinner and a charming movie with James. Inspired and enchanted by the film, we chose to wander back through the city, stopping for drinks on an outdoor restaurant patio. The combination of Vitamin D, Woody Allen, and wonderful conversation put a bounce in my step and enabled me to slip into bed (late) that night with a smile on my face and not a care in the world. I don’t remember the last time I slept that well.

Here’s to a magical summer!

Cheers, Briana

Ballad Of F*** All     Quick disclaimer: Despite the explicit title, I have found no other naughty words within the song. If you are listening at work, this song is office friendly… unless your co-workers within ear shot don’t like good music. My dear friend Alison sent me this song last week. Her [...]

My dear friend Alison sent me this song last week. Her SOTD emails are melodious little treats that hop into my inbox & bring my joy. I know next to nothing about this band, so I appreciated the share, and figured I should pass it on.

I informed Gavin’s mother that he is, without a doubt, the cutest kid in the world… until I have my own and he is inevitably knocked down to #2. I normally would not say this to a client, but in this situation I’m allowed to be biased & a bit sassy… the client is my [...]

I informed Gavin’s mother that he is, without a doubt, the cutest kid in the world… until I have my own and he is inevitably knocked down to #2. I normally would not say this to a client, but in this situation I’m allowed to be biased & a bit sassy… the client is my competitive younger sister, and these images are of my sweet new nephew. :)

That’s right, I just wrapped up an exquisite time of traveling to my hometown in California to meet, cuddle, and photograph this lovable new addition to my family.  Gavin is completely captivated by the click of the camera shutter, and seems to greatly enjoy my crazy faces, so we got off to a good start! Watching my sister & brother-in-law with Gavin was incredibly heart-warming. Next visit, I’m informing them that a full family session is required.  Kudos to my baby sis for creating something that will draw me back to the west coast more frequently. It will be difficult to be 3000 miles away from that little belly.

Cheers, Briana

Since I was a wee one visiting my father at his home in New Orleans, I have made a habit of turning on this song & just dancing. 20 years later, the bliss of this simple act has not dwindled one bit. I danced to this with my dad as a child. I dance to this with my husband now. I will dance to this in the future with my own children. This song makes me happy, for so many reasons, so it’s time to share the joy. I invite you to take a minute today to turn up the volume, play this song, and dance around without any inhibitions. I guarantee I’ll be doing the same thing at least once today.

Cheers, Briana

Prelude | Baby Gavin

May 14th, 2011

I look at this and “Like a Boss” immediately gets stuck in my head,  just replace all crude lines with topics such as “blew some bubbles” or “rolled on my belly”.  Y’all are lucky I’m not better at audio editing… a ridiculous new slideshow song would have been made for my full post.  More cuteness [...]

More cuteness on the way.

Molly & TJ | Boston Lifestyle Photographer

I have had the pleasure of shooting with the DeMarco’s multiple times now, and it always brings me joy. Molly & TJ were High School sweethearts. I have had the pleasure of shooting with the DeMarco’s multiple times now, and it always brings me joy. Molly & TJ were High School sweethearts. They met at 13, started dating at 16, and the rest is history.  When Molly and I met for coffee before our first session, she shared with me that their wedding photos were devastatingly disappointing (heart hurts just typing that), and her realization that nearly 10 years of marriage without any frame worthy photos would just not do. Last year, I captured them on campus at Brandeis University, where Molly is working hard as a PhD candidate. A few months ago, I was honored to photograph TJ as he became an ordained minister.  Both sessions were enjoyable, but this was by far my favorite, because I got to watch Molly and TJ simply be. Molly describes the start of their relationship as organic, and that is true of their love today. They share a sweet, sassy, and honest intimacy that can only come from that many years of sharing life together.  I love the freshness and excitement of engagements and weddings, but there is something so lovely and grounding about a couple at this time in their marriage. Still young, with so much life and growth ahead, but their love is already so deeply rooted…. it’s quite beautiful.

Breathe Again I apologize for not posting my weekly pretty ditty yesterday. I apologize for not posting my weekly pretty ditty yesterday. I am currently in my childhood hometown visiting my ADORABLE nephew (many photos to come, naturally), and the internet went down after a freak hail storm.  After that piece of info, you would think the following statement would be dripped with sarcasm, but I mean it from the bottom of my heart: I miss this crazy little mountain town!  Hopefully I can get back again soon. My heart is forever torn between city and mountains. Settling down in the future will be such a difficult decision. Sigh.

Enjoy the song, I’m off to get a few more giggles out of the cute patoot before I leave town.

Cheers, Briana

I played this song for James the other day and shared 2 important pieces of information with him.

1. This is the song that I want played at my memorial. I have already insisted that I get to go first. He likely regrets ever watching UP with me.

2. I often feel I missed my calling to sing in a folk trio. No joke. Anybody driving by me when I play this CD with the windows down could easily back me up.
