“I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you.
I love you not only for what you have made of yourself, but for what you are making of me”
-Roy Croft

Here’s to five years of silly, dedicated, comfortable love, and all that is to come.

I look forward to the day that we are adorably old, with our matching rocking chairs, hopefully wearing awesome hats, reminiscing about our happy life together. The family we created. The places we traveled. Maybe even a final decision on which is grosser… your beard trimmings or my long blond shedding hair. No matter what, I know I’ll be holding your wrinkly hand, bugging you to put on sunblock, and smiling when I think of these early years. We’ll talk about our big moves, the risks we took, the lessons we learned, and likely laugh at the realization of how little we knew, but how greatly we loved.

Thank you for the great, ridiculous, incessant joy that you bring to my life.

I love you… a whole heap of a lot. :)

Cheers,

Briana

Yesterday, I took my first steps… again. :) I currently move at tortoise speed, and to quote LMFAO, “When I step on the scene, Y’all know me, ’cause I walk with a limp”… but I’m crutch free! Today is a happy day! A big thanks to everyone who has kept me entertained and cared for over the last 6 weeks. To celebrate, I am happy to share the following collection of awesomeness that has brought me joy recently. Enjoy. :)

I believe most problems with today’s new crop of youth can be directly linked to a lack of Mr. Rogers. Thanks Alison for sending this my way.

My spirit animal is a friendly T-Rex. I feel your pain, my tiny armed friend.

If James had his way when I remodeled the home office:

For all of my friends out there with adorable tiny humans:

 This person is my hero!

Mail from a friend will always light up my day:

And for those who would love a good distraction, can you guess them all?

Enjoy your weekend! I know I will.

One fact that I am very adamant about: No matter what the wedding industry will tell you, it is not the details, nor the budget, that make the wedding. This is a day that celebrates the beginning of your marriage, and that is the most important thing. Commitment makes the wedding. Authenticity makes the wedding. An expression of your personality and your love is what makes the wedding.

That being said, while the details don’t define the couple, I love when the couples make the details! This wedding was a labor of love. Ashley poured her creative spirit into this wedding. Most every facet of this wedding is special to them, created or gifted by family & friends.

Congratulations James & Ashley!

Adorning Ashley’s neck is her grandmothers necklace, a set of pearls worn by her grandmother starting at the age of 16, while she still was living in Germany. In addition to this family heirloom, Ashley’s mother presented her with a set of earring borrowed from a close friend. Custom hair pieces and boutonnieres were created by Rhiannon, close friend of the groom.  All flowers were purchased at the LA Flower District and arranged by family.

Ashley & James opted to do a First Look, providing ample time to take relaxed & intimate portraits. They took advantage of this quiet time to sneak in extra hugs, conversation, and simply let their emotions run free. Keeping with the feel of a wedding about them, their interests, and their love, they made the priority of seeing each other for the first time be about the beautiful moment they shared together, right there, instead of as a guarded moment in front of the guests. Plus, they were able to sneak in some early kisses. ;) Win/Win!

(sidenote: I kinda have the hots for that groomsman on the far left. Rawr.)

The ceremony at Heritage Park was short  & sweet. The downpour from the night before subsided early enough to provide perfect conditions. With the lovely smell of freshly watered grass, accentuated by the gentle salty breeze that floated up from the Pacific Ocean, the park was downright heavenly.

More cuteness. James & I go way back, but Ashley & I had only met that morning. This was the moment I knew we were kindred spirits!

The reception was held at a private residence in San Juan Capistrano. Aside from the rented tables and dance floor, everything you see is a collection of hand made or personal items; courtesy of the host, wedding party, friends, or family.  My favorite details are the love letters. James & Ashley spent a year of their relationship dating long distance, and they frequently corresponded through hand written letters. These letters were all over the reception, both in beautifully tied bundles, as well as the backing paper in the frames scattered around the tables.

The rest of the evening was spent devouring delicious tacos, dancing, and simply enjoying the reunion of many scattered friends and loved ones.

Thank you James & Ashley for a lovely day! We’re so happy to have you join life in Boston, and are excited to stand by you & watch your marriage grow.

Cheers,

Briana

Hello again.  Thanks for letting me share some more of my favorite music with you.  Summer has snuck up on us early this year and with it… the sunny tunes. This week I’ve been working on a summer playlist of sorts… I’m calling it “Summer Sounds Like” (it’s on Spotify, if you’re into that sorta thing).  It’s been a ton of fun putting it together.   It’s really hard to choose just one song, so real quick, let me fill you in on a few bands I am still obsessed with from last summer.  Right now, in my car, I can not stop listening to Broken Bells, Mates of State, and the ultimate driving album… AWOLNATION.  I loooooooove it.   The volume is cranked, and there is dancing.  Oh my, there is dancing.  Keep those in mind while you’re building your summer playlist.

Now… the feature today is a little bit different.  Mother Mother is a funky indie rock band from Canada… eh?  I’ll be honest… the reason I started listening to this band is because the girl that plays one of my favorite Doctor Who characters, Karen Gillan, tweeted that she loved them.  And since I like to think she and I could be best friends, I gave them a shot.  Turns out Karen has good taste.  They are a bit quirky, but true summer fun.  I can’t even describe who they sound like…  Ting Tings maybe?  Maybe they’re just completely original.  Either way, I like.

Take a listen. Get the album. Volume up. Windows down. Sunny summer drive. Enjoy.

Cheers,

*A*

It’s been awhile since I shared anything personal. Here are a few things you may not know about me. :)

In another life, I would be: a singer in a folk trio.

Most embarrassing moment: that time I caught myself singing along to a Nickelback song (oh the horror).

Concerning cocktails: I prefer whiskey over piña coladas… but I always enjoy getting caught in the rain.

Thoughts on men’s facial hair: I celebrate that every month in my home is “movember“… but it must include a beard.

Knowledge of foreign languages: Slowly learning French. If speaking in sound effects counts, I may eventually be trilingual.

Product of West Coast roots: I hate when Californians say “Cali”.  If you were raised elsewhere, I’ll give you a free pass.

Calling dibs: I may have already arranged my future child’s marriage. What can I say, my friend make cute tiny humans.

Speaking of cute tiny humans, here is a sneak peek of the adorable faces that will be gracing the blog soon:

Cheers,

Confession time! These days, I get much of my favorite music from frothy television dramas. Come to think of it, I use this music “research” as an excuse to watch many of them.  I used to pride myself on being able to track down good music before it gets big. Truthfully, I still do, but the means by which I found it was a bit more “hip” when I was in college. That wasn’t too long ago, but I probably just aged myself an extra 10 years by using the word hip. In quotations. Oi.  I still have a few brilliant friends to turn to for recommendations, but they are fewer and farther between. With the flexibility of schedule and opportunities of indie shows fewer and far between, as well as being married to a Scholar vs. dating musicians, my search has gone other directions.

These days, I find that the quest for new/fun music is as easy as looking up the music guides to shows who hire the likes of Liza Richardson, Christa Miller, Gary Calamar, Lindsay Wolfington, and, of course, the fabulous Alexandra Patsavas. I have an iTunes playlist titles “Thank you Ms. Patsavas” for a reason! Considering so much of what I play these days is essentially background mood music, chosen to fit my current surroundings, music supervisors are really an excellent source! If you get stuck in a music rut, I highly recommend looking into their choices… online, or while watching your favorite guilty pleasure. ;)

Cheers,

Briana

PS- first person to guess my new TV addiction, based on this song, wins a photo magnet from Pinhole Press! :)
