First of all, I want to thank everyone who voted. I love all of these couples, and it was so wonderful to see the support rolling in. I’m so excited to be announcing not just one, but THREE lucky couples who will be taking home some goodness. Are you ready for the results?  Let’s get to it.

Brendon and Elana! You guys are crazy, in the best of ways, and your persistence (paired with a healthy dose of hotness) paid off.  Congratulations!! :)

For me, it wouldn’t be a competition without a few fun extras. I’m a huge promoter of good character, enthusiasm, and the ability to share the love. With that in mind, I went into this giveaway with a few special categories in mind.

Sharing is Caring

Gautama Buddha said that “Happiness never decreases by being shared”. The bible tells us “Give, and it will be given to you”. Cookie Monster quite simply suggested “share it, maybe”. Whomever you choose to listen to, I learned how to share as a child, and appreciate it greatly in adults. ;)   Because of this, I was on the look out to see who would happily share some love by sending a few  votes to others. I was simply blown away by the generosity of one particular bride to be. Not only did she invites others to vote for those she knew in the gallery, but she went on to like & comment on the photos of total strangers. Who had such kind words and a sweet heart?

Shannon! Not so shocking, as she is pretty much the sweetest thing ever. Shannon, your big heart and happy have won you (and Guy!), a beautiful Colorado Beetle Kill Pine Calendar from Artifact Uprising! This beautiful reclaimed wooden calendar plank comes complete with 12 press printed monthly sheets, each featuring a photo of your choice. Also, a special treat just for Lady. I’m sure her furry, smiley face brought in some extra votes. :)

Endearing Enthusiasm

“If you have zest and enthusiasm you attract zest and enthusiasm. Life does give back in kind”. Norman Vincent Peale may have taken a peek into the future when writing about the power of positive thinking, and the winners of this prize may have been the inspiration. This couple shared their excitement about this giveaway, my work, and their love of photography through many outlets. Whose enthusiasm oozed from Facebook, their blogs, emails, and more?

Jill & Aaron, your gusto may not have brought home the biggest prize, but your efforts brought you close! In honor of your spirited sharing and kind words, you have won a mini Softcover Book from Artifact Uprising! I can’t wait to see this sweet book on your new coffee table when you move back to the States! :)

Finally, as a thank you to all of my couples: I am offering a 25% discount on all print product order placed between now and Saturday, January 19, 2013. Email me for details!

Cheers,

Wacky Internet: 1. Briana & Awesome Future Clients: 0.

My contact page is currently sweating it out in an interrogation room with some burly guys from my hosting site. Ok, I really just contacted the lovely support team, but I hope maybe that image would intimidate my page to get with the program.

Everything should be running smoothly soon! Until then, my actual email address has been posted to the contact page, or you can always click the lovable little envelope icon within the header of this blog. Thank you for your patience. ;)

And because any post is better with a cute photo, I thought I would share how I will spending the rest of my day:

Seriously. How adorable are these 2 goobers? Between them and photography, I pretty much have the best work life possible.

Cheers,

From platitudes to postcards

February 13th, 2011

I have never enjoyed the phrase “when life hands you lemons, make lemonade”. Partly because I really only like lemonade if it’s mixed with iced tea, or if I am buying from a cute little kid with a stand, therefore I’m not exactly the target audience for that expression. I have never enjoyed the phrase “when life hands you lemons, make lemonade”. Partly because I really only like lemonade if it’s mixed with iced tea, or if I am buying from a cute little kid with a stand, therefore I’m not exactly the target audience for that expression. Mostly I dislike the phrase because I am not particularly a fan of any cliche attempts to cheer me up. Unless used ironically, of course, while paired with a photo of a reeeeally cute animal. Nonetheless, I recently was unable to escape talks of lemonade, silver linings, and upside down frowns.

As many of you know, my gorgeous New England fall was rudely interrupted by the recurrence of a bone tumor in my ankle. I was taken out of work for surgery, and my few months of recovery severely limited me, both financially and creatively. This was a discouraging time that no clever phrase could help. However, I couldn’t help but realize that the answer to my troubles was to take action; to assess an unfortunate situation and figure out how to turn it into something I could enjoy (or at least learn from).  So I sucked it up, seized what I had to work with, and made an Arnold Palmer.

I have always loved simple design work. Cards, art, home decor, all aspects of design make me giddy. I have grown to appreciate this and had chances to dabble in that work, given my artistic milieu, but never had a reason to expand that hobby into my business. Upon learning I would be temporarily disabled, I realized what better time to open that door. Through the fall and the holiday season, I made the best of my cooped up time by advertising to former clients, friends and family, and ended up designing postcards for a variety of needs. Here are a few examples of what I was up to:

(contact info blurred out for client privacy)

The fabulous headshots for Laura Manchester was taken by the talented Josh Lyon, based in Ca.

I love my clients! Seriously, they inspire me and bring me so much joy. I am currently in the brainstorming/inspiration board stage for a theme and all subsequent printing design for a wedding. Just thinking about it forces me to keep my drool in check. Sigh.

We all need to mix things up a little bit, to stretch ourselves. What have you all been delving into lately? I would love to hear about it.

Cheers, Briana
