After a week of work, I spent another week in CA soaking up time (and a little sun) with the people I love, in the places I miss. My trip was an exhausting rush of joy and nostalgia, and I’m so happy I went. Today, I woke up in my own bed, next to my best friend, and was happy to be at home… one of them. ;)

**I shot most of my personal photos this week on film, and forgot to take additional shots on my digital camera to share here. My intentions were good, but my memory can be bad. :) Soooo… most of these are phone stand-ins for now.

Alan + Orla | Married… again!

When Orla contacted me last year and told me her story, I was simply charmed. Orla & Alan are active people with lovely souls, and you might need to sit down with a map to chart out the story of their wedding. ;)   Orla, originally from Ireland, met Alan in Boston, where he was raised. Together, they now live in beautiful city of San Francisco. My own love story takes place in Ireland, California, and Boston, so the immediate connection was not a surprise.

Orla & Alan were to be married in Cork, and followed by a traditional Chinese tea ceremony and banquet in Boston, providing both sides of family & friends with a familiar setting to celebrate. Yes, that means there were 2 destination weddings to be planned… my vote is for double the honeymoon to relax from that much work! They hired the fun & talented husband/wife team at We are the Mastersons for the Irish ceremony, and I was so honored to be chosen to document the local celebration here!

As luck would have it, just 2 months after Orla and I first connected, I traveled to San Francisco for a both work and pleasure, and we were able to meet in person (while poor Alan was bundled up sick at home). Orla was so full of life, exuding sheer joy, and I was immediately taken with her authentic nature. Keeping up over Facebook, I was able to get a glimpse into their lives, and when the day finally came for their Boston festivities, I couldn’t wait to witness their love first hand! Meet Alan & Orla:

The day began at the home of Alan’s parents. This was my first tea ceremony, and I was SO excited to have my darling friend and talented photographer Nicole Chan second shooting with me & sharing her experience.  It was truly special to see both sides of the family partake in the tea ceremony. Families coming together and sharing their cultures is such a beautiful thing to observe! Orla looked stunning in her red and gold Cheongsam, and her flower girls were adorable in their matching dresses.  The couple served tea to their family to express their appreciation, and were presented with jewelry & red envelopes with cash (as well as lots of hugs!) in return.

After the ceremony, we headed to the city for portraits in the Public Garden. Because they met and fell in love while living in Boston, Alan & Orla wanted to have their portraits in a location that was meaningful for them. The garden is truly a perfect place to represent these 2, with it’s fine balance of laid back & playful. The rain teased us, but there ended up being plenty of time to enjoy the green, the architecture… and of course, the ducks. :)

The reception took place at Quincy’s China Pearl Restaurant. After a quick change into her beautiful Amy Kuschel wedding gown, Orla & Alan were introduced, and the festivities began! The party was kicked off with a colorful lion dance!  Then, 300 tummies began the delicious adventure known as the traditional ten course meal. Pacing was key, but these breaks were filled with happy toasts and lively conversation. Plus, the cutting of the cake. Oh, the cake. It was multi-flavor layered goodness.

After taking in an incredible meal, the happy couple & guests were able to dance, play wild games, and simply revel in being married… again. ;)

Alan & Orla, I can’t thank you enough for choosing me to document your day. Also, for sending me home with delicious cake. :)

Now that the whirlwind of wedding events are behind you, I hope you have enjoyed taking a moment to breathe & enjoy the calm. I look forward to the little peeks into your marriage online, from across the coast, and hope we can see each other soon… near one ocean or another!

Sláinte,

Briana

Ok, so at this point, fun. has officially gotten the most love on this blog, and for good reason. :) In addition to living up to their name with energetic songs, and having a reputation for equally passionate live performances, here are a few extra tidbits I enjoy: Nate’s voice takes me back to happy college days listening to The Format.. and his theaticality is often compared to Freddie Mercury of Queen… I love me some Queen. Jack frequently interacts with their fans, and Andrew plays the Flugelhorn… how can you not love the Flugelhorn? Nate Harold (current member of the touring band) makes me giggle often with his tweets.  Also, they are passionate gay rights advocates (I rock this shirt proudly).Their single “We are Young” was recently featured on Glee, and I’m expecting big things for these guys in 2012!! Even though it is not Music Monday,  I feel the need to share their newest song to grace my happy ears. One Foot can be heard on their new album, which drops at the end of next month!

A couple of weeks ago, I finally had the immense pleasure of seeing them live at the Landsdowne Pub where they headlined for WFNX Disorientation. If you have the chance to catch the tour in 2012, you should try go. Scratch that… you need to go. Make it happen. Thanks to my beautiful friend Noel, I was able to get a “photo pass” (there wasn’t a designated space at this venue, but I did get to sneak around the side :) ). A night of amazing live music and a chance to photograph a band I love… toss in that pint of Boston Brick Red I ordered, and it was a pretty perfect night.

Below are a few images from the night.

Over the weekend, I had the immense pleasure of assisting Shang Chen during a gorgeous Jewish/Hindu (or “Hin-Jew”, according to the officiant ;) )  interfaith wedding at the Four Seasons. The blending of two cultures was absolutely breath-taking! And the Saris… oh… the Saris… the variety of color and details, I can’t accurately describe with words. I’ll have to show you in a future post. :)

What I looked forward to the most was the dancing, and this group did NOT disappoint! I was thrilled to recognize this song during the reception, and most of my favorite dancing images were taken as this played. Bend it like Beckham is an old favorite in my DVD collection, and the soundtrack is played in my home frequently, but now this song will fill my head with visions of vivid color and vivacious laughter.  This was an experience I will not forget, and I hope to have many Indian weddings in my future!

He wandered into the living room as I flipped through our wedding album, and made one simple comment: I’m surprised how easy marriage has been. I smiled, because I knew what he meant. Life itself has not been easy. Our lives together have not been simple. Early on there was the typical learning curve, the struggles to compromise, differences of opinion to maneuver.  We have been bulldozed with financial hardships, debilitating health concerns, and the harsh reality that hard work and integrity are not always valued by others. There has been joy, fun, and adventure as well, but life as a whole, including growing together as husband and wife, has been immensely challenging at times. That’s fine… I like a worthwhile challenge. ;) The easy part? It is the choice. The choice to love. The choice to stay committed. If I could name one constant over these last four years, it would be the confidence in the choice I made on my wedding day.  I think I do at least one celebratory mini-dance a day. :) An anniversary calls for more than a display of my sweet muppet moves, so here is a peek at how we chose to celebrate:

******

Fellowship & fireworks on the Promenade in Portland, ME

Camping & cooking at Rangeley Lake. We kept it classy with the wine canteen.

Exploring, kayaking, & sipping tea with a good book.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Moore experience without a dance party, or James excitedly bringing out the janky fisheye. The highlight: James saw his first moose. Now if we ever meet Brian Reagan, we can officially tell him while it wasn’t a flock, we have seen moosen… in the woodsen. ;) A few downpours helped confirm our tent was in fact waterproof. Silver lining: ample time for afternoon naps. Bliss.

James, thank you for cherishing our relationship as much as I do. For making the choice so easy. Again, and again, and again.

Cheers,

Briana

Singer-songwriter Alison Sudol chose the perfect professional moniker, as I was certainly whipped into a very fine frenzy upon my initial experience with her music a few years back. I connect deeply with her style, in fact, I think if I had to sum up my personality through music, I would direct people to her alums. Her sweeping orchestrations and playful arrangements tap into a wide array of emotions and responses to her world. Haunting. Thoughtful. Classic. Whimsical. Exuberant. Enchanting. Sassy.  Fresh. This young lady doesn’t limit herself; there is an hones in her lyrics that is refreshing, her commanding voice is empowering, and her talent is simply undeniable. If her strong follow up to this original album is any indication, she should be with us for years to come.

That’s just fine with me. ;)

Young Love. Those are the best words I can use to sum up this family. It started for AJ & Rhiannon when they began dating in high school. I was lucky enough to witness their relationship first hand at University, and even as they matured as people and a couple, they kept a youthful enthusiasm about each other that was downright blissful to watch. 5 years into their marriage, they have a new young love, in the form of Coben, Jonas, and Averson… who simultaneously keep them young and gray their hair. ;)

Catching up with AJ & Rhiannon in person was such a joy for James & I. From a far, we have kept up on AJ’s musings via his blog, and seen the world through Rhiannon’s budding photography venture. Of course, through the magic of Facebook, we have grown fond of the kids before getting so much up close and personal time. Thanks to all of this, I knew when we got together, the wild rumpus would begin!

Though currently based in Phoenix, AZ, Rhiannon is actually from Massachusetts. This year was their first trip out East as a complete family, so Rhi couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have her family fun in her favorite city (holla!!) documented.

Meet the Teaters:

A serene moment before the boys let loose… which sweet little Averson watched (and drooled over) with curiosity. :)

This is Coben.  He loves baseball (keep your eyes on him Epstein).  I think on the cuteness scale, he hit one out of the park. ;)

Those. CHEEKS.  Averson, I could squeeze you forever.

Our original location was overran with Bruins fanatics (the victory parade rolled through just hours earlier), so we headed down to the water to catch some of the yummy light and much needed breezes. Jonas is a little rockstar and hammed it up for me hardcore. This little giggle came moments after his silliest pose.

Rhiannon keeps her children close to her heart… literally. :)   In addition to photography, Rhiannon sells custom handmade necklaces, as well as those adorable hair pieces you see Rhi & Averson sporting for this session. You can view her work here.

This shoe collection could not go un-featured. Way to raise your boys with a love of fun shoes. Their future wives will appreciate it!

Jonas is the master of NOT standing still. What is a parent to do?

James corralled the little ones and played the part of human jungle gym so I could get a few tender moments of peace with AJ & Rhi.

After a bottle of her beloved milk, Averson let us know the had given it her all. I couldn’t think of a more fitting closing image for this family. :)

We adore you all! Hopefully we can make this a Boston vacation tradition for many years to come.

Cheers (and much love),

Briana
