All environs contain elements that are both intriguing and beautiful. The bustle and architecture of a big city. The warmth and care-free vibe of the coast. The wholesome, hands on culture of the country. I enjoy partaking in what they offer, and am always happy to indulge in the benefits of each. But where does my heart lay? What makes my soul feel truly alive? The answer, my friends, are hidden in the air and the energy of the woods and the mountains.

Upon a brief return to my hometown last year, I took advantage of the opportunity to spend a few hours in Yosemite. It has been far too long, and this visit was much too short. Next Fall, I plan to spend at least a few days exploring the valleys and the peaks of this wonder of nature. Just minutes from my childhood home, I never understood how lucky I was to grow up around such splendor. I have skied, hiked, camped, and swam in these breathtaking surroundings more than I could count. That is the setting in which I learned grace and joy. These are the elements that shaped me.

This is where I feel free.

The Day to Day | Week 4

January 30th, 2013

This week was not so planned out. I did my best to simply document little moments, as they happened. I didn’t feel that any of the photos were something to write home about. They simply work as a visual journal. I’m ok with that.     022-365 A light dusting     023-365 Flu Season [...]

But we must regularly and every day give it a chance to start flowing, and prime it with a little solitude and idleness. I learned that when writing you should not feel like Lord Byron on a mountaintop, but like a child stringing beads in kindergarten–happy, absorbed, and quietly putting one bead on after another.”  –Brenda Ueland

I left my heart in San Francisco
High on a hill, it calls to me.
To be where little cable cars
Climb halfway to the stars!
The morning fog may chill the air
I don’t care!
My love waits there in San Francisco
Above the blue and windy sea
When I come home to you, San Francisco,
Your golden sun will shine for me!

My first weekend off in months, and I got to spend it in one of my favorite cities. It’s good to be back. This California girl is content. :)

Few things excite me more in this job than that instant connection with a future bride. A few months ago, I sat across the table from Danielle,  immediately drawn to the lively and personable manner in which she shared this piece of her story.  Joy radiated from Danielle as she touched upon the sweet details; the comfort of her relationship with Paul and their vision for the wedding, the grin on her face at the mention of Frank Sinatra, uncontainable laughter when describing their families… it felt much more like catching up with an distant friend than business. I was overjoyed when, upon meeting Paul at their engagement session, he exuded the same warmth as his lovely fiancee. Like many a groom to be, Paul was dreading his time in front of the camera, but thankfully he was laughing within minutes, and his lovable personality shined right through! It warms my heart to share their smiling faces with you today. Meet Paul & Danielle:

We started our session down by the Waterfront. Danielle looked smashing, so who can blame Paul for needing to sweep her into his arms?

I love a little silliness… :)

After a quick wardrobe change, we took a little walk. The color & texture of this wall is so bright & playful… just like these two!

Personal favorite! How sweet are they?

Thank you for such a fun afternoon! I can’t wait for your wedding in April, it’s going to be stunning. James & I look forward to toasting you at Molly Kays (Paul’s pub ) later this Winter. Until then, enjoy keeping each other warm. :)

Jason & Kevin | Boston Lifestyle Photographer

I am often asked if I have an “ideal” client & style, and truthfully, I could never narrow that focus; I love variety. What I love is creating images that are true to the subjects. What inspires me is a couple who is authentic… and desires that their photographs are as well.  That said, imagine my excitement when Jason requested a lifestyle portrait session with his partner, Kevin. Added bonus: Jason & Kevin are two of my favorite people in the world. Photographing people I love in love doing what they love… it’s better than a double rainbow;)

We started this session in their new home. Cicero says that a room without books is like a body without a soul. I’m happy to say these boys have got soul! As scholars, lovers of literature, and fellow hardcover book-snobs (represent), their extensive library is prominent in every room.

*Special FB/Twitter shout out to the first person who can guess my favorite detail in their office. ;)

Well balanced as a couple, they are equally balanced in lifestyle. Content with quiet time at home, but also extremely active in the community, we naturally needed to capture both sides of their life. After a time of study & relaxation at home, Kevin & Jason were ready to hit the streets! :)

The Boston skyline is stunning.  The vitality of an urban setting juxtaposed with the beauty & intimacy of nature makes Boston one of my favorite cities in the world… and a perfect backdrop for these two.

Snuggly. :)

To see a few more from this session, visit their Facebook Album

Fellas… I adore you. I can’t wait for our follow up session this winter!

Over the weekend, I had the immense pleasure of assisting Shang Chen during a gorgeous Jewish/Hindu (or “Hin-Jew”, according to the officiant ;) )  interfaith wedding at the Four Seasons. The blending of two cultures was absolutely breath-taking! And the Saris… oh… the Saris… the variety of color and details, I can’t accurately describe with words. I’ll have to show you in a future post. :)

What I looked forward to the most was the dancing, and this group did NOT disappoint! I was thrilled to recognize this song during the reception, and most of my favorite dancing images were taken as this played. Bend it like Beckham is an old favorite in my DVD collection, and the soundtrack is played in my home frequently, but now this song will fill my head with visions of vivid color and vivacious laughter.  This was an experience I will not forget, and I hope to have many Indian weddings in my future!
